The Cancer Institute NSW and BreastScreen NSW have launced a new
$1.2 Million statewide advertising campaign to remind and encourge women aged 50-69 years
to have a regular screeening mammogram.
Breast cancer is the most common cause of death from cancer in women
in Australia and around one in eight will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.
The risk of developing breast cancer increases with age.
Early detection of breast cancer before it has a chance to spread is the most
important factor determining a woman's survival and recovery from the disease. By screening every
two years breast cancers are more likely to be found at an early stage where appropriate
medical treatment can be provided.
The 'cherry and pea' television commercial, which emphasises
the importance of early detection of breast cancer, is voiced by SBS news presenter
Mary Kostakidis. The campaign runs from September and includes a range of resources.
